Computer Operation Do you have a computer on your desk and want to know more about it? TLC offers a broad range of instruction for the new and old user. Choose from 3 phases of Windows instruction, Mac for Beginners or PC Troubleshooting. (Mac and PC platforms)
Macs for Beginners This class covers just about everything from turning on the computer to manipulating files on the hard drive. I will also show the class, effective hints, tips, and shortcuts and good computing practices. All students will leave the class with a tutorial which they can use when they return to their own computer.
Windows XP Level I New course designed for the true beginner. Is your computer bullying you? Are you afraid to use it because it might break down? Don't know your mouse from your monitor? Don't let that computer intimidate you anymore! This Windows class is designed to help the new computer user overcome PC-Phobia! Windows for Beginners covers the very basics in PC computer operation and use-- including mouse, keyboard and window navigation skills. When you leave this class you will have gained the skills needed to navigate through Windows with confidence.
Windows XP Level II After mastering the basics of computer operation, register for the next class in the Windows series. Windows Intermediate reviews the basics and the covers in-depth customization of your computer. Learn how to make your desktop behave, customize windows and make your computer "user friendly." Master the skills of file management so you can put files where you can find them. Explore the Internet and learn how to search the web with results. This class is for users who have worked with Windows 95 or Windows 98 and need to learn more. If you have very little experience in computer operation, please view our course on Windows XP Level .
Curriculum Based InstructionThere are many resources available for teachers and students that can speed up planning and enhance classroom instruction. TLC offers instruction in several instruction-based applications.
Effective Web Surfing Teachers take their students to a media lab to research topics for reports and other projects. Students who have never been trained to search on the Internet will spend an entire class period searching with no results. They leave the class feeling frustrated and worried about how they are going to get their work done.
TLC has found that with proper training, all students are capable of finding several viable research sites. They are also trained to save pages for use later or take effective notes while in the lab.

MS Access Level I Introductory level skillsMicrosoft Access is a complex database creation program. If you have ever needed to organize a large quantity of data, along with pictures and statistics, you are probably ready to begin posting your data in a database. Access has the ability to sort, query, and report your information in a variety of ways. Participants will learn the basic skills of Access 2000. Topics covered will include the design and creation of databases tables, queries, forms and reports. In this hands-on class as you learn the program, you will create a basic a database, populate it with data and then run several queries and reports. Internet Based Instruction If you are connected to the Internet, TLC offers training to help you utilize the resources that are available. Learn to pick up your e-mail from home, design your own web page, discover the upcoming trends in Internet- based media, how to tap into learning resources that can be used in the classroom, put your curriculum on the web and have it available to students any time.

Web Design with OnCourse Participants in this class will learn how to publish their first web page. Basic elements of web page design are covered and students will create a web page using the built-in software that comes with a subscription to OnCourse and learn how to publish their pages on the World Wide Web. Come with an idea for your web page and bring any pictures and graphics you would like to include.
Microsoft Front Page FrontPage is a web page editor that has built in templates, wizards and extra bells and whistles that will help you make a professional web page in a relatively short period of time. TLC recommends that participants be experienced web page designers before learning how to use this program as this is more instruction on the use of a new editor than it is web page design concept and theory. Basic web page design and theory is required before taking this course.
Microsoft Office Suite Learn how to create and maintain Word documents, Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations.

Microsoft Excel Level I Microsoft Excel is an electronic worksheet program that stores words, numbers and the solutions to calculations for those numbers. In this class, participants will learn the Excel basics... how to create, print and save a worksheet, edit an Excel worksheet, get "help" in Excel, format a worksheet, workbook management and how to use formulas an functions. When you have data you need to organize, calculate, chart, graph and/or display, you need Excel.
Microsoft Excel Level II Beyond the "fundamentals" of Excel, there are many features of this program to make your work easier. The topics of this class include managing your workbook with headers and footers, page numbers; creating custom toolbars; using functions; working with lists of data; inserting Excel documents into Word or PowerPoint and changing Excel's options.
Microsoft Excel Charts You already know what a chart is… although many of us refer to them as graphs. Charts illustrate data, relationships, or trends graphically. Like the saying “a picture is worth a thousand words” charts are often better at presenting information than the difficult-to-read numbers in a table or spreadsheet. In this class you will learn just about everything there is to know about charts... how to create dynamic looking charts, edit and format charts, and work with different types of charts.
MS PowerPoint Fundamentals PowerPoint is used for creating presentations with full color and animations for staff meetings and in the classroom. PowerPoint can also be used to create menus, fliers, book reports and slide shows. In this hands-on class as you learn the program, you will create a basic presentation with graphics and transitions. Please have an idea of a presentation you would like to make during class and bring any graphics or pictures you would like to include.
MS Word Level I Word is probably the most used word processing program today and has many options that make document creation or editing a breeze. This class covers the basics you need to become proficient at using Word. In this class you will learn how to create, edit, print, and save a Word document; get help in Word, use the tabs correctly; format characters and paragraphs, and format pages of the documents. Participants should have a basic knowledge of Windows or Macintosh operating systems before attending this class.
MS Word Level II Beyond the "fundamentals" of Word, there are many features to make word processing easier. The topics of this class include templates and styles; customizing toolbars, AutoText and Auto Correct; changing Word's default options, adding a header and/or footer, page numbers, tabs and sections.
MS Word Drawing and Graphics Get ready to get in touch with your artistic side! Documents that include pictures, drawings, and graphics can be much more compelling and effective at conveying messages than documents than contain only boring text. In this class you will learn how to use Word's powerful drawing tools to add lines, shapes and text boxes to your documents; insert pictures and clip art into a document; use the WordArt program to turn your text into smart-looking 3-D headlines; how to insert special symbols, such as copyright symbol ©, accented and foreign characters £ and fun characters ,into document.
MS Word Mail Merge, Labels Mail merge letters are used to send the same or similar documents to many different people at once. Since they contain the recipient’s name, address, and other information these letters feel more personal. Performing a mail merge isn’t a very difficult process but there are many steps to creating a mail merge. In this class we will go through the mail merge process step-by-step. Printing envelopes and labels will also be presented.
MS Word Tables Tables are great for presenting information in an organized, attractive manner. A table neatly arranges text and data in a grid, organized by columns and rows. Once you have entered information in a table, you can do all kinds of great things with it. For example, you can sort the information alphabetically or numerically, add and delete columns and/or rows, and make your table stand out by formatting it with a dramatic border, shading, and coloring options. In this class you will learn the tricks to make great looking tables.
Multimedia
The computer industry is exploding with new and exciting multimedia applications. Digital cameras, scanners and digital video are tools you can use to create multimedia presentations on paper and on screen.
Adobe Photoshop 7.0 PhotoShop is a professional level image editing program. The tool palette covers any kind of editing that you can imagine from cropping to adding filters like glass or wind. Participants will be introduced to the tool palette, layers, history, file types an sizes. This is hands-on lab. Participants are required to have strong computer skills and be comfortable with menus, clicking, and clicking and dragging skills.
Adobe PhotoShop Elements 4.0 PhotoDeluxe is a smaller, more compact version of PhotoShop. They are both made by Adobe, but PhotoDeluxe can be purchased for a fraction of the cost. This hands-on lab will take participants through all the tools and features of this easy-to-learn program. One of the user-friendly features is the built-in wizards for photo touch-ups and repairs. If you want to dabble in photo retouching at a fraction of the learning curve and cost, take this class.
